Bog Harvesting & Weed Pickups
Yesterday we began our annual bog removal efforts, including transporting the bogs to our new disposal location at Walton Sand and Gravel north of Whitewater. We are grateful to the Walton family for accommodating both our weeds and bogs this year after the DNR eliminated our decades-old disposal site on Highway P.
Bog work requires our contracted excavator operator to work with a large team of our harvester operators and truck drivers. We appreciate all lake users staying clear of these equipment-intensive operations to ensure everyone’s safety and to keep waves from dispersing the bog material.
For late season weed pickups, we will make a run around the lake after we are able to replace a damaged spud on the transport barge. We need two functioning spuds to safely approach piers and transfer weeds onto the barge.
Regarding of the timing of weed pickups, we will post updates on our website and FaceBook. Meanwhile, if you don’t want to leave weeds on your pier you could place them on your seawall before relocating them to your pier prior to pickup. (Please note we cannot pick up weeds from your seawall.)
